Principal Flutist of Pittsburg Symphony Orchestra.Īs a soloist, she has won top prizes in several competitions including 1st Prize in the All Flutes Plus Royal Academy of Music Flute Competition, the Korea Flute Association Competition and the Seoul Flute Competition. Lorna studied with David Nicholson at the RSAMD and with William Bennett at the Royal Academy of Music, where she was awarded the Queen's Commendation for Excellence. Lorna has been a resident artist/teacher at the Banff International Centre for the Arts on several occasions. She has performed for the National Flute Convention, British Flute Convention and Austrian Flute Society. She has given master classes at major universities, conservatoires and flute festivals in the UK, USA and Canada. As a teacher, she has served on the faculty of the University of Michigan. Lorna is regularly featured in chamber music festivals in Canada and the States, including the Seattle Chamber Music Festival and Sitka Summer Music Festival. As a member of Trio Verlaine ( with Heidi Krutzen, harp and David Harding, viola) Lorna has most recently recorded "Fin de Sie?cle," a CD of music by Debussy and Ravel for Skylark Music. Along with Duo partner Heidi Krutzen, Lorna has released two CDs on Skylark Music: "Taheke, 20th century Masterpieces for flute and harp" and "Canada, New Works for flute and harp." Both discs reflect the Krutzen/McGhee Duo's commitment to expanding the repertoire, with four of the Duo's own commissions amongst the diverse repertoire presented. She has made chamber music recordings for EMI, Decca ASV, Naxos and Meridian. In July 2004 she performed Penderecki's flute concerto with the Oregon Bach Festival Orchestra (USA) under the baton of Krystos Penderecki himself. She was formerly co-principal flute of the BBC Symphony Orchestra, a position she held until immigrating to Canada in 1998. In 2009 he was awarded the "Lifetime Achievement Award by Chicago Flute Club. In 2004 he was awarded the title of " Flute of Gold" from the Italian "Falaut" Flute society. In 2002 he was awarded the National Flute Association's "Lifetime Achievement Award" and in 2003 he was appointed the British Flute Society's "Flautist Laureate". In 1995 H.M.The Queen presented William Bennett with the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire(OBE) for his distinguished service to Music. Continuing and developing the imaginative teaching of Marcel Moyse and Geoffrey Gilbert, William Bennett brings his own articulate and cogent reasoning together with his consummate artistry and musical integrity to the Master class situation. Professorships at the Music Hochshule Freiburg and the Royal Academy of Music London and Masterclasses throughout the world have established William Bennett as one of the foremost teachers of the age. He has made a large number of Recordings with other famous artists.
